Malta tneħħiet uffiċjalment mill-hekk imsejħa “l-lista l-griża” tat-Task Force ta’ Azzjoni Finanzjarja, l-FATF.
Dan tħabbar mill-President tal-FAFT, Marcus Pleyer, f’konferenza tal-aħbarijiet il-Ġimgħa waranofsinhar malli ntemmet laqgħa plenarja tal-organizzazzjoni, li tlaqqgħet fil-kapitali Ġermaniża, Berlin.
L-FATF, permezz tal-President tagħha, innutat kif pajjiżna għamel riformi b’saħħithom u kif f’sena, Malta lestiet il-pjan ta’ azzjoni maqbul mal-FATF.
Il-President tal-FATF qal li Malta tinsab f’pożizzjoni aktar b’saħħitha sabiex tiġġieled il-ħasil tal-flus u l-iffinanzjar tat-terroriżmu.
“Regarding other countries, Malta is coming off the grey list. After serious deficiencies were identified by the FATF, the Maltese government in June last year agreed to an action plan, which is now completed. As a result, it is now better placed to tackle money laundering and terrorist financing and FATF team had a successful on-site visit in April and the FATF congratulates Malta for being removed from the list.”

Marcus Pleyer żied jgħid li Malta trid tkompli taħdem u tagħmel iżjed riformi sabiex tkompli tissaħħaħ f’dan is-settur.
“So, looking into the future, it is clear that it doesn’t mean that the works stops for Malta. Malta must take advantage of this momentum to continue and to make improvements to the anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing system.”

F’din il-plenarja f’Berlin, kienet biss Malta li tneħħiet mill- monitaraġġ tal-FATF, filwaqt li fil-lista l-griża żdiedet Gibilta.
F’Marzu ta’ din is-sena, waqt laqgħa plenarja oħra tal-FATF, kien intqal li Malta ħadet il-passi kollha meħtieġa biex tindirizza strateġikament ir-rakkomandazzjonijiet li sarulha.
Dan wassal biex saret żjara f’pajjiżna mid-delegazzjoni tal-FATF, sabiex jikkonfermaw li dawn ir-rakkomandazzjonijiet kienu twettqu.
