This morning, three non-resident Ambassadors presented their credentials to Myriam Spiteri Debono, President of Malta, at the Presidential Palace in Valletta.
These are Manuel José Antonio Cacho Sousa Velázquez, Ambassador of the Republic of Peru, Mohamed Khelifi, Ambassador of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, and Abat Fayzullaev, Ambassador of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The Ambassador of Peru commended Malta’s multilateral efforts, especially during its tenure as an elected member of the United Nations Security Council between 2023 and 2024 and its Chairmanship of the OSCE during 2024.

Discussions also revolved on the bilateral relations between Malta and Peru, with particular focus on the educational and cultural sectors.
The discussion also referred to the international scenario in the light of recent movement and declarations.
The meeting with the Ambassador of The People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, focused on strengthening bilateral economic, cultural and commercial collaboration.
The Ambassador recalled Malta’s efforts within the United Nations Security Council, and the collaboration between the countries on this Council. He highlighted the shared values between Malta and Algeria to promote global peace and security. The President also stressed the need for more cooperation between the countries on the littoral of the Mediterranean Sea, in order to give new emphasis and importance of the Mediterranean as a region.
The Ambassador of The Republic of Uzbekistan reaffirmed his will to build strong ties with Malta and stressed the mutual efforts of Malta and Uzbekistan in multilateral fora. The President recalled Uzbekistan’s support during Malta’s chairmanship to the OSCE and thanked the Ambassador for this support.
As Uzbekistan’s first accredited Ambassador to Malta, Fayzullaev expressed his determination to further the bilateral collaboration in various sectors such tourism and education.
During the meetings, President Spiteri Debono congratulated the Ambassadors on their appointment.
