Ir-rebħ tal-kampjonat Ewropew tas-sena l-oħra mit-tim nazzjonali tal-futbol Ingliż tan-nisa ħalla impatt pożittiv ferm fuq l-aspettativi tan-nisa, partikolarment it-tfajliet, fil-futbol lokalment. Fl-aħħar żmien, żdied l-interess tan-nisa biex jilgħabu din il-logħba, li tradizzjonalment hija l-aktar sinonima mal-irġiel.
F’konferenza tal-aħbarijiet qabel il-logħba ta’ ħbiberija tan-nisa li se ssir nhar il-Ġimgħa f’Malta bejn Birkirkara u l-Machester United, il-kowċ tat-tim tal-futbol tan-nisa ta’ Birkirkara, Jose Borg, qal li din il-logħba qed tkompli żżid il-promozzjoni għall-futbol tan-nisa lokalment, tant li l-biljetti huma meħuda kollha.
“England winning the Euro Cup helped them, and I’ve seen a lot of girls following them, because there’s a big following from English fans in Malta, so we’re expecting a good fanbase tomorrow. We also heard that the tickets are sold out for tomorrow’s game, which is perfect. I think for us Birkirkara, for women’s football, there’s big promotion. It’s a good promotion for women’s football and I am very happy with the end results.”
Meta mistoqsi dwar x’impatt kellha r-rebħa tal-14-il kampjonat tal-Euro s-sena li għaddiet, il-kowċ tal-Machester United, Mark Skinner, qal li l-aspettattivi huma kbar, b’mod speċjali fl-Ingliterra, fejn il-kampjonat tan-nisa huwa kompettitiv ferm u ma hemm l-ebda tim li jiġri b’ieħor.
“In England, it’s a huge impact in so many areas, in expectation on players, expectation on the eyes watching our league now. I still believe ours is the most competitive league in the world, especially, any team can win on any day, so that’s always difficult, but we talk about investment and the opportunity to invest. I think all eyes are on it, it is magnificent for women sport. I am privileged to be a part of women sport and the growth of that, and long may that continue.”
Il-logħba bejn Birkirkara u l-Manchester United se tintlagħab il-Ġimgħa 6 ta’ Jannar fl-Istadium Tony Bezzina, Raħal Ġdid fis-sitta ta’ filgħaxija.
