F’dan il-kungress, riċerkaturi se jippreżentaw l-istudji, il-proġetti, u x-xogħol li qed jagħmlu għas-sajjieda ta’ skala żgħira fil-livell Ewropew.
ONE News tkellem ma’ Svein Jentoft, professur universitarju Norveġiż, li spjega li s-sajd fuq skala żgħira huwa mhedded minn bosta fatturi, partikolarment bl-effetti tat-tibdil fil-klima.
Qal, “There is everything: from economic, social, or natural pressures. Climate change is one thing that is affecting small scale fisheries, but also issues like urbanisation, competition for space in the ocean, so there are so many issues that we need to address if they are to survive.”
Il-Professur min-Norveġja saħaq ukoll fuq kemm dan it-tip ta’ sajd għandu benefiċċji għall-komunitajiet tagħna.
Qal, “Everyone is talking on how important they are for food security and for the livelihoods of people who live in coastal communities. They do make an important contribution. It’s also part of a culture heritage so there are many ways this can contribute.”
Preżenti, is-Segretarju Parlamentari responsabbli mis-Sajd, Alicia Bugeja Said, li qalet li permezz ta’ dan il-kungress Malta qed tħares lejn bosta opportunitajiet ġodda li jistgħu jiġu adottati għas-settur tas-sajd f’pajjiżna.
Dan il-kungress qed isir fis-sena li l-Assemblea tan-Nazzjonijiet Magħquda ddedikatha bħala s-Sena Internazzjonali tas-Sajd u l-Akkwakultura Artiġjanali.
