Ir-Renju Unit u l-Unjoni Ewropea qablu dwar il-ftehim ta’ kummerċ wara Brexit. Wara xhur ta’ negozjati fejn ma kienx hemm ftehim bejn iż-żewġ naħat, dawn waslu għal qbil ġimgħa qabel ma jintemm il-perjodu tranżitorju. L-ikbar sfida kienu n-negozjati dwar drittijiet tas-sajd u regoli ta’ kompetizzjoni kummerċjali.
Il-Gvern Ingliż qal kif dak propost fir-referendum f’Ġunju tal-2016 u fl-elezzjoni ġenerali ta’ Diċembru tas-sena l-oħra, twettaq.
F’konferenza tal-aħbarijiet il-President tal-Kummissjoni Ewropea Ursula von der Leyen stqarret li n-negozjati wasslu għall-ftehim bilanċjat u ekwu. Stqarret li għalkemm in-negozjati kienu twal u diffiċli, ir-riżultat tagħhom huwa wieħed pożittiv.
Ursula von der Leyen stqarret: “The UK is a third country, but it remains a trusted country, we are long standing allies, we share the same values and interests, whether it be the COP 26 Summit in Glasgow or the upcoming UK G7 and the Italian G20 presidencies, the European Union and the United Kingdom will stand shoulder to shoulder to deliver on our common global goals. ”
In-Negozjatur ewlieni tal-Unjoni Ewropea Michel Barnier wkoll irringrazzja lil kull min ikkontribwixxa fin-negozjati sabiex seta’ jintlaħaq dan il-ftehim.
Il-Prim Ministru Boris Johnson stqarr li r-Renju Unit irnexxielu jilħaq l-ikbar ftehim kummerċjali fl-istorja.
Huwa qal, “So I am very pleased to announce this afternoon that we have completed the biggest trade deal yet worth 660 billion pounds a year, a comprehensive Canada style free-trade deal between the UK and the EU.”
Fi tweet il-Prim Ministru Robert Abela stqarr li dan il-ftehim se jkun qed isaħħa ir-relazzjonijeit ta’ Malta mar-Renju Unit għall-ġid taċ-ċittadini u n-negozji tagħna.
The #EU 🇪🇺 and #UK’s 🇬🇧 renewed partnership will serve as a foundation for #Malta’s relationship with the UK.
