Il-Prim Ministru Robert Abela indirizza s-summit internazzjonali tat-tibdil fil-klima tal-Ġnus Magħquda, il-COP28, f’Dubaj.
Dr Abela appella lill-mexxejja biex jingħaqdu biex jiffaċċjaw it-theddida li qed tikkawża din l-isfida, waqt li semma li Malta, bħala pajjiż fil-Mediterran, għadha kemm esperjenzat wieħed mill-iktar sjuf sħan fl-istorja.
Il-Prim Ministru Malti semma kif pajjiżna ħa bosta inizjattivi globali, fosthom tal-Island for Islands, filwaqt li tenna l-impenn ta’ Malta, li tkompli tgħin gżejjer u stati żgħar.
“We are extremely satisfied to see many parties joining this important initiative. “It always seems impossible until it’s done,” stated Nelson Mandela and there is no better time than today for such a statement. Let’s join forces and enable humanity to reverse this existential threat.”
Fil-messaġġ tiegħu, il-Prim Ministru qal li Malta mhix tieħu biss inizjattivi internazzjonali, iżda anki lokali, hekk kif pajjiżna se jnaqqas ħamsa u ħamsin fil-mija tal-emissjonijiet sal-elfejn u tletin.
Semma kif fl-aħħar diċenju, Malta naqqset l-emissjonijiet tal-gassijiiet serra b’sittin fil-mija, bil-għan li trażżan iż-żieda fit-temperaturi.
Dr Abela sostna li Malta kellha żieda sinifikanti fl-enerġija rinnovabbli, hekk minn 10 MW fl-2012, din żdiedet għal 230 MW fl-2021. Iżda tenna li dan mhux biżżejjed.
“Change requires reform, particularly when it comes to unlocking private financial investments to achieve climate neutrality and to make sure that we channel financial flows through global economic systems ensuring accessibility by the most vulnerable states. We will always walk the talk.”
Il-Prim Ministru żied jgħid li fl-aħħar snin, Malta żiedet sew il-kontribuzzjoni lejn l-isfida tat-tibdil fil-klima.
“Internationally, in the past 4 years, Malta has doubled its contribution to the Green Climate Fund twice. Today 17% of our Overseas Development Aid is earmarked for capacity building in adaptation to climate change.”
