F’laqgħa f’Kastilja mar-rappreżentant għoli tal-Unjoni Ewropea għall-Affarijiet Barranin u l-Politika ta’ Sigurtà Josep Borrell Fontelles, il-Prim Ministru Robert Abela insista dwar mekkaniżmu ta’ rilokazzjoni awtomatiku tal-immigranti.
Il-Prim Ministru aċċenna li dan il-mekkaniżmu għandu jiskatta b’mod awtomatiku biex jiġu indirizzati sitwazzjonijiet bħal dawk li qegħdin jiżviluppaw bħalissa fil-baħar Mediterran.
F’dan il-kuntest semma bastiment b’ħamsin immigrant abbord u li qed jistenna biex jidħol f’port siguri.
“Let us take this ship that we have outside our shores why do we not have yet in place it is true we are discussing the upcoming pact but years after the migration issue started to emerge, we’ve been discussing this issue for years after and we don’t have a tangible mechanism which would tackle the issue of automatically what would happen what should happen with this particular boat that is outside our shores”
Il-Prim Ministru sostna li s-solidarjetà għandha tinbidel f’għajnuna konkreta u tenna li l-problema tal-immigrazzjoni hija problema Ewropea.
Hawnhekk ir-rappreżentant għoli tal-Unjoni Ewropea saħaq fuq il-pjan tal-Ewropa li tintroduċi patt ġdid dwar l-ażil u l-immigrazzjoni u li jrid jintlaħaq matul dan is-sajf.
“We have to look for a solution, a permanet solution that’s why the representitive of the directorate general whose incharge of home affairs is accompanying this visit in order to share what we are doing. We are to propose a new pact and approach on asylum and migration. A new approach that is badly needed.”
Iż-żewġ partijiet qablu li l-problema tal-immigrazzjoni trid tissolva mill-għeruq tagħha.
Il-Prim Ministru Robert Abela rrimarka li fl-eqqel tal-pandemija kienet biss il-Libja li tat għajnuna tanġibbli. Tenna li din hija waħda mill-fatturi li wasslet għad-deċiżjoni ta’ Malta dwar l-missjoni Ewropea Irini li baqgħet ma nbidlitx wara nuqqas t’għajnuna konkreta mill-Unjoni Ewropea.
Il-missjoni Irini hija operazzjoni ta’ twaqqif ta’ traffikar ta’ armi lejn il-Libja.
“Let us discuss what our involvment in the operation Irini would have in pur relations with our Libyan counterparts. I have to say that our relations with Libya are excellent, they are based on mutual trust, and in the worst part of the pandmeic it was Libya who helped us. Libya was in a total lockdown, due to covid, libya was torn in an internal strive and yet Libya came foward to assist us. So yes we of Libya as our friends.”
Dr. Abela għamel referenza kif tul dawn l-aħħar xhur il-komunikazzjoni mal-Libja żdiedet ferm u dan il-pajjiż fit-tramuntana tal-kontinent Afrikan kien strumentali fis-salvataġġ tal-ħajjiet fuq il-baħar.
Saħaq li l-Unjoni Ewropea trid tagħmel il-parti tagħha u tgħin lill-Gvern Libjan u lill-poplu Libjan fl-isforzi tagħhom biex jibnu dan il-pajjiż mill-ġdid.
