“Illum hija ġurnata sewda ferm għall-Amerika. Ixxukkjati u rrabjati.”
Kien b’dan il-mod li l-membru tal-Kamra tar-Rappreżentanti fl-Istat ta’ Michigan, fl-Istati Uniti, Darrin Camilleri, li hu ta’ nisel Malti, iddeskriva l-massakru li seħħ fi skola primarja f’Texas u li ħalla 19-il tifel u tifla u żewġ għalliema mejta.
F’intertvista esklussiva ma’ ONE News, Darrin Camilleri qal li sitwazzjonijiet makabri bħal dawn qed narawhom iseħħu f’diversi okkażżjonijiet u saħaq li għandha tittieħed azzjoni immedjata mill-gvern Amerikan.
Qal, “It is another sad day here in Amerika, where we have seen another group of students and teachers which killed at the hands of a gunmen and it is an unsettling reaction here in America where issues like this happen over and over again. We are angry, furious, we want to see change but unfortunately the Republicans in our State Government as well as the US level refused to take action to help stop these mass murders happening in our schools and all over our country”
Emozzjonat, Darrin Camilleri qasam magħna esperjenza ta’ meta zijuh kien ukoll spiċċa vittma ta’ sparatura – traġedja li kienet kissret il-familja tiegħu.
Fakkar li bħalu hemm mijiet ta’ familji oħra li qed ibatu wara li sfaw vittmi ta’ traġedji simili, inklużi dawk li tilfu lil uliedhom waqt li kienu qed jieħdu l-edukazzjoni tagħhom.
Qal, “When I was young my uncle died at the hand of a gunmen in Detroit and it was an issue that has broken my family, even all these years later. We know that so many people have impacted by gun violence, even me, including in that situation it is very scary and there are far too many of us that has these personal experiences with gun violence.”
Waqt li Camilleri osserva kif, bħala pajjiż, l-Ameirkani għaddejjin minn żmien diffiċli ferm, tkellem dwar x’jista’ jsir madwar l-Istati Uniti biex fil-futur ma jerġgħux iseħħu traġedji simili.
Qal, “We are grieving with the families of Texas, but we also know that we need to take action. We need to pass universal background checks, we need to do more to regulate these situations from happening in first place, weather its gun safety storage or the universal background checks. Those are at least ideas that people agree with and we should do something about it and I hope that we find ourselves in a position to create change and so that we prevent these issues from happening again in the future.”
