Il-Gvern Amerikan u l-Gvern Malti ħarġu stqarrija konġunta li fiha ddikjaraw li qed jissaħħu r-relazzjonijiet bejn iż-żewġ pajjiżi.
Għalkemm ma saret l-ebda referenza diretta fl-istqarrija ppubblikata s-Sibt, ftit tal-jiem ilu fil-Qorti saru numru ta’ allegazzjonijiet li setgħu taw x’jinftiehem mod ieħor.
L-allegazzjonijiet saru minn Darren Debono li qed jipprova jwaqqaf azzjonijiet tal-Gvern Malti kontra tiegħu. Hu qed ikun akkużat f’ċirku internazzjonali tat-traffikar taż-żejt.
Fl-istqarrija konġuta, il-Gvern Malta u l-Gvern tal-Istati Uniti qalu li f’ħidma trasparenti u onestà jaħdmu flimkien f’setturi varji, minn ekonomija u finanzi, għal edukazzjoni u kultura. Minn konsultazzjoni politika għas-sigurta reġjonali u koperazzjoni ta’ infurzar tal-liġi.
Iż-żewġ pajjiżi ddikjaraw li fl-aħħar tlett snin, il-koperazzjoni bejn iz-zewġ pajjiz kibret u issaħħet. Biz-zewġ pajjizi jikkolaboraw flimkien ukoll fil-qasam tas-sigurta u l-infurzar tal-liġi.
Fl-istqarrija, Malta u l-Istati Uniti qalu li jaħdmu flimkien biex jinstabu soluzzjoni globali u għall-Meditteran – fosthom fejn jidħlu l-armi, tibdil fil-klimà, sigurta tal-enerġija, traffikar tad-drogi u tal-persuni, migrazzjoniu biex jissaħħu l-fruntieri.
Intant, fil-Qorti Darren Debono għamel ukoll dikjarazzjonijiet li setgħu indikaw li hemm nuqqas ta’ fiduċja f’uffiċjali tal-gvern Malti.
Iżda, iż-żewġ gvernijiet kienu skjetti ħafna. Kull allegazzjoni, inkluż dawk li jimplikaw nuqqas ta’ fiduċja f’individwi tal-gvern, huma foloz u m’għandhom ebda impatt fuq il-ħbiberija u l-kollaborazzjoni mill-qrib li teżisti.
Joint Statement by the government of the Republic of Malta and the government of the United States of America
“Our bilateral relations have been consistently strong and continue to go from strength to strength.
We work together in a very transparent and honest manner, from economic and financial engagement, to cultural and educational exchanges, political consultation, and regional security and law enforcement cooperation.
Over the past three years, we have seen significant growth in our partnership with security and law enforcement elements along with cooperation against common threats to our countries.
We are partners in finding solutions to issues of global transnational importance and Central Mediterranean security such as weapons proliferation, climate change, energy security, trafficking in drugs and persons, transnational crime, migration, and protecting our borders.
Any allegations to the contrary, including those implying lack of trust in key individuals in the government, are false and have absolutely no impact on our friendship and close collaboration.”
