Il-kumpanija Ingliża Coop Exchange għażlet lil pajjiżna biex tistabbilixxi l-bażi ta’ operazzjonijiet tagħha għall-Unjoni Ewropea. Dan tħabbar fl-aħħar jiem waqt konferenza fi Smart City, il-Kalkara, fejn attendew u anke intervjenew bosta figuri prominenti fil-qasam tal-koperattivi.
Magħhom ħadu sehem ukoll il-Prim Ministru Robert Abela u l-Ministru għall-Finanzi Clyde Caruana.
Fil-fatt, il-Prim Ministru wkoll intervjenza f’din il-konferenza fejn sostna kif il-Gvern Malti se jkompli jkun ta’ spalla għal dan l-investiment biex il-kumpanija tkompli tkun parti integrali mis-settur finanzjarju progressiv u dinamiku ta’ pajjiżna.
ONE News iltaqa’ mal-fundatur u Kap Eżekuttiv ta’ Coop Exchange, li spjega l-funzjoni ewlenija tal-kumpanija, jiġifieri dik li tagħti opportunità favur investiment finanzjarju fit-tul f’koperattivi li jippromwovu l-prinċipji tal-ESG.
“The concept of taking your pension money and investing it into cooperative has never been done before and that’s what we have addressed so we are facilitating taking these trillions from across Europe and across the world and putting them into cooperatives and generating what we call a sustainable return for people, like you and I, that have our pension funds in major pension providers.”
Gill faħħar ukoll l-infrastruttura finanzjarja b’saħħitha li teżisti f’pajjiżna, flimkien ma’ ħaddiema kompetenti fil-qasam tal-IT, u qal li huma r-raġunijiet ewlenin għaliex Coop Exchange għażlet li tiġi hawn.
“Malta has very strong regulatory requirments and infrastructure and has everything we needed, it has a good IT infrastructure, it has good IT professionals. It has everything that we would need and has access to the whole of Europe, has legislation in English as well as Maltese.”
Gill rrimarka wkoll l-għajnuna kruċjali, li pprovdiet l-Awtorità Maltija għas-Servizzi Finanzjarji, l-MFSA, biex din il-kumpanija tistabbilixxi ruħha f’pajjiżna bħala ċentru għall-bqija tal-Ewropa.
“The MFSA have been very very supportive and they have actually encouraged us at looking at different ways to achieve our ambitions so, for example, we are actually starting using the crowdfunding regulations that came in relatively recently and that is a tremendous idea that allows us to treat as a stepping stone towards our eventual aim of having a trading venue, a stock exchange for cooperatives here in Malta so they have been very supportive in that process.”
