Il-Kap Prosekutur Ewropew Laura Kövesi, li tmexxi l-Uffiċċju Ewropew tal-Prosekuzzjoni Pubblika tinsab f’Malta.
Dan l-uffiċċju li huwa parti mill-Unjoni Ewropea nħoloq fil-bidu ta’ Ġunju ta’ din is-sena.
F’konferenza tal-aħbarijiet f’Dar l-Ewropa, Kövesi qalet kif dan l-Uffiċċju jinvestiga każi ta’ frodi u korruzzjoni minn fondi pubbliċi.
Qalet, “Our juridisction is to investigate and prosecute to crimes related to frauds with EU funds, with the damage higher than €10,000, VAT frauds with a damage of more than €10 million, organised crimes, money laundering and corruption, if these crimes are related to main jurisdiction that we have.”

Waqt iż-żjara tagħha f’pajjiżna, Kövesi kellha laqgħat mal-Kummissarju tal-Pulizija u l-Avukat Ġenerali, li qalet kif dawn ħallew il-frott.
Qalet, “Yeah, they were very open, the meetings were very constructive. We discussed about the main that the EPPO has and how we can establish a good cooperation with them and a good channel of communication and contact points, based on the jurisdiction that they have.”
