Malta se jkollha baġit imsejjes fuq ħames prinċipji li jkomplu jsostnu l-investiment kapitali, li fl-aħħar baġit laħħaq il-biljun ewro.
Qal dan il-Prim Ministru Robert Abela f’indirizz li għamel waqt il-konferenza organizzata minn Ernst & Young, li qed tlaqqa’ taħt saqaf wieħed investituri barranin u lokali biex jiddiskutu s-settur.
Dr Abela semma, bil-fatti, ċifri li juru s-suċċess ekonomiku ta’ pajjiżna.
“Our economy is 15% larger than it was in 2019. We managed to create 40,000 jobs, and the number of graduates in employment in Malta increased by 17%. The basic median salary grew by 12% and bank deposits of Maltese households are a third higher than they were before the pandemic. In 2023, our unemployment rate fell further to 2.5%, the lowest in history and for the first time also the lowest in the EU. In 4 years, the number of people dependent on social assistance also fell by nearly 2,000, or roughly 25%. These results were no accident and they should not be taken forgranted.”

Il-Prim Ministru spjega l-viżjoni ekonomika tal-Gvern għas-snin li ġejjin, fejn fost l-oħrajn, semma kif il-baġit għas-sena d-dieħla se jkun mibni fuq l-impenn li jibqa’ jappoġġja u jipproteġi lin-nies u lin-negozji, bi stabbiltà fil-prezzijiet tal-enerġija flimkien ma’ miżuri soċjali li jibqgħu jgħinu lil min jiflaħ l-inqas.
Il-Prim Ministru tkellem ukoll dwar l-investiment fil-ħiliet biex jinħolqu aktar karrieri ta’ kwalità, ħalli l-ekonomija tibqa’ tikber b’mod sostenibbli. Dan kollu, qal il-Prim Ministru, jorbot mal-impenn tal-Gvern, li jrid jibqa’ jtejjeb il-kwalità tal-ħajja ta’ kull ċittadin.
Meta tkellem dwar il-viżjoni ekonomika tas-snin li ġejjin, Dr Abela semma l-qalbiet ambjentali u diġitali, u qal li qed iħares ’il quddiem lejn proġetti kbar ta’ enerġija nadifa.
“We believe facilitating the green economy and digital transitions is key. These two transitions are the biggest economic opportunities for our generation to build a new prosperity. We need to work together to change the ways work and develop better ones.”
il-Prim Ministru Robert Abela
Il-Prim Ministru qal li pajjiżna qed iħares li jieħu triq ekonomika li biha jiġbed lejh investiment ibbażat fuq ir-riċerka u l-innovazzjoni, anki fid-dawl tar-riżultati inkoraġġanti mill-istarriġ tal-Ernst & Young.
“Most firms that were surveyed clearly see their future in Malta. They recognise our vision and find us to be more attractive for investment than our European peers. They are also putting their money where their mouth is, investing more in upskilling their workforce.”
il-Prim Ministru Robert Abela
Finalment, Dr Abela qal li qed iħares ’il quddiem lejn futur li jkompli jġib bidliet li jlestu lil Malta għal għada, u jibni fuq suċċessi miksuba fl-aħħar snin, fi sfond ta’ sfidi bla preċedent.
“The last ten years have seen us achieve a lot together, but we have the potential to do better, to deliver a difference. Driving the change our islands need. Addressing the biggest challenges. Getting our nation ready for tomorrow’s world. In short – getting the future right.”
