Is-Sibt ittellgħet, il-Konferenza Global Parliamentary Forum: Advancing LGBTIQ Equality through Leadership and Representation li saret b’kollaborazzjoni mal-Uffiċċju tal-Ewroparlamentari Ewropew Laburista Cyrus Engerer, flimkien mal-Politicians for Global Action u Global Equality Caucus.
F’din il-konferenza taw is-sehem tagħhom għadd sabiħ ta’ Deputati Parlamentari minn diversi pajjiżi mill-Afrika, l-Amerika u l-Ewropa. Fost oħrajn, fost il-parteċipanti Maltin f’din il-konferenza fil-Parlament Malti tkellmu l-Kummissarju Ewropew għall-Ugwaljanza Helena Dalli, il-Membru Parlamentari Ewropew Cyrus Engerer u l-Membri tal-Parlament Randolph Debattista, Katya De Giovanni, Graziella Attard Previ u Claudette Buttigieg.
One News tkellem ma’ żewġ kelliema f’din il-konferenza.
David Bedo huwa membru parlamentari fl-Ungerija li jaħdem bi sħiħ favur l-ugwaljanza. Huwa semma kif il-Gvern f’pajjiżu jqis lil komunità LGBTIQ+ bħala ta’ stigma.
Bedo li għex f’pajjiżna għal ftit xhur, tnax-il sena ilu tkellem dwar kif pajjiżna kompla jinbidel tul iż-żmien dwar l-ugwaljanza. Huwa semma kif matul dawn l-aħħar għaxar snin pajjiżna għamel iktar minn kemm għamlu l-pajjiżi kollha f’50 sena.
Qal, “Probably the biggest thing that I saw right now is, currently I see people actively fighting for their rights of the LGBTIQ+ community. Back when I lived here even though I was only for a few months, it wasn’t a discussion of topic, it wasn’t depicted in many many ways as I see depicted now. So I think Malta has come an incredibly long way in the past ten years in human and LGBTIQ+ rights.”
Fox Odoi-Oywelowo li jaħdem qatigħ fil-Parlament tal-Uganda favur l-ugwaljanza tkellem magħna dwar il-liġi li għaddiet f’pajjiżu f’Mejju li għadda, fejn persuni tal-istess sess ma jistgħux jiżżewġu, u fejn att sesswali bejn persuni tal-istess sess jista’ jwassal saħansitra għal sentenza ta’ għomor il-ħabs.
Stqarr, “Malta is a World Class Case Study for gender equality, is a country, all of us should look up to, is a country all of us should emulate. It makes me almost emotional looking at what is appealing back home in Uganda where we don’t recognize fellow human beings who belong to the LGBTIQ+ community as human beings where we do not protect the rights to love who do you want to love where we criminalise them. We have a death sentence for aggravated homosexuality which is basically love.”
