Madwar l-Ewropa n-nisa huma fost l-aktar nies milquta minn problemi ta’ faqar, b’mod speċjali fid-dawl tal-kriżi tal-enerġija kawża tal-gwerra fl-Ukrajna.
Dawn is-suġġetti u aktar kienu fiċ-ċentru tad-diskussjoni bl-isem ta’ ‘Energising Women in Poverty’ li ġiet organizzata f’Dar l-Ewropa, fil-Belt Valletta, mill-Uffiċċju tal-Parlament Ewropew f’Malta, ir-Rappreżentanza tal-Kummissjoni Ewropea f’Malta, u l-Komunità tal- Female Entrepreneurs Malta.
Fost l-oħrajn, intqal li madwar l-Ewropa kollha, il-vjolenza domestika kienet u għadha pjaga soċjali li tkisser il-ħajja ta’ bosta nisa, u fost l-effetti koroh tagħha, twassal għal esklużjoni soċjali u faqar.
Intqal li, fost in-nisa li huma affettwati mill-faqar, hemm is-single mothers, li mal-ħamsin fil-mija tagħhom isibuha diffiċli biex ilaħħqu mal-ispejjeż tal-ħajja.
Bħala inizjattiva f’Jum il-Mara, waqt din id-diskussjoni ngħataw handbags mimlijin prodotti essenzjali għan-nisa lil għaqdiet nongovernattivi li jieħdu ħsieb lin-nisa li jinsabu fit-truf tas-soċjetà.
ONE News tkellem mal-moħħ wara dan il-ġest, Dana Carmfront, li hija ċ-Chairperson ta’ Female Entrepreneurs Malta, il-FEM. Hija stqarret li n-nisa li qed jaffaċċjaw realtajiet koroh ferm għandhom ikunu jafu li qatt ma jinsabu waħidhom.
Hija nnutat il-bidliet pożittivi li qed isiru madwar id-dinja, b’mod speċjali fl-Ewropa, favur ħajja aħjar għan-nisa.
“I think, in general, we are now becoming a bigger community together, so we can achieve things to make things move forward and to help each other. So, I know, globally, at the moment, there have been a lot of positive things happening for women, so it’s a really great change in what’s going on globally.”
B’mod virtwali, wasslet il-messaġġ tagħha waqt id-diskussjoni wkoll l-Ewroparlamentari Laburista Josianne Cutajar, li tkellmet dwar il-ħidma li għandha ssir sabiex in-nisa jikkumbattu l-faqar permezz tal-edukazzjoni.
Appellat sabiex, minn età żgħira, wieħed ma jaqtax qalb il-bniet milli jidħlu jistudjaw u jaħdmu fis-setturi tax-xjenza, it-teknoloġija, l-inġinerija, u l-matematika, magħrufa bħala STEM.
“Let us better combat the energy crisis and the gender gap which exist, by giving women a seat at the table where decisions around energy policy and infrastructure development are taken, and by ensuring that their needs and perspectives are taken into account. This will only be possible if girls are encouraged to pursue STEM education, training and careers from an early age, and if they find the support networks that they need.”
