Malta minnufih se tirdoppja l-fondi fil-fond ambjentali tal-Ġnus Magħquda.
Din kienet waħda mid-dikjarazzjonijiet b’saħħithom li għamel il-Prim Ministru Robert Abela f’messaġġ fis-Summit tal-Konferenza COP26 fi Glasgow bejn mexxejja dinjija biex tiġi indirizzata l-isfida tat-tibdil fil-klima.
Il-Prim Ministru tenna l-impenn ta’ Malta sabiex timplimenta l-istrateġija ambizzjuża biex pajjiżna jnaqqas il-livelli ta’ karbonju b’miri sas-sena 2030.
Spjega kif Malta ser tkun ukoll disposta li tgħin gżejjer żgħar oħra jegħlbu l-isfidi li qed iġġib magħha t-tibdil fil-klima.
Dan anke permezz ta’ skambju tal-ideat imsawra mill-esperjenzi li pajjiżna diġà għadda minnhom.
Qal, “Transformation infrastructure and adaptation capabilities need financing. It must therefore be ensured that funds are channelled to where they are most needed. Recognising that developing countries are facing major challenges, Malta is committing to immediately double its contribution to the Green Climate Fund as of now.”
Dr Abela saħaq li dan huwa l-mument li flimkien nagħmlu d-differenza kontra t-tibdil fil-klima.
Fid-diskors tiegħu, il-Prim Ministru rrikonoxxa l-importanza li l-mexxejja madwar id-dinja jirrikonoxxu l-bżonn li jsir sforz kollettiv kontra t-tibdil fil-klima.
Huwa stqarr kif dan is-summit huwa l-ewwel pass.
Spjega, “We must believe that together we can make the difference, for our children, our families, our peoples and above all for humanity and our planet. This is why COP 26 is a turning point for humankind. This is it!”
Il-Prim Ministru stqarr kif dan l-impenn li ntwera fis-Summit issa jrid jinbidel f’xogħol mill-pajjiżi differenti.
Qal kif issa trid issir ħidma b’passjoni u impenn sabiex l-messaġġ ‘building back better’ ma jibqax biss espressjoni rettorika.
Qal, “We must effect real change and convincingly ensure a just transition that leaves no one behind, in a compelling and tangible manner based on digitalisation, talent and a revision of how we measure national value and wealth. At the same time, we must reinforce our ambitions for collaboration and solidarity. The prosperity of one country should not translate into the isolation of another. The planet’s new future should be based on the alignment of nations in their right for a better world. A world without disparity.”
